How to Care for Outdoor Pools

Here at Pool Blue Inc., we want to help you enjoy your pool as much as possible. To get the most enjoyment from your pool, it’s important to keep it in good condition. Depending on the type of pool you have, proper maintenance can look slightly different. In this article, our team will go over some of the key steps for maintaining outdoor pools to help you take the best care of yours.

  • Cleaning. One of the most important steps in maintaining outdoor pools is regular cleaning. We at Pool Blue Inc. recommend that you skim, brush, and vacuum your pool at least once a week to prevent the buildup of dirt or debris. In addition, you should empty out the skimmer baskets to make sure that they continue to do their job properly.
  • Chemical Balance. Another key step to maintain outdoor pools is to check and adjust the chemical balance of the water. We recommend that you check the pH and chlorine levels at least twice a week to ensure that they stay within healthy parameters, and that you use chemical treatments to adjust this balance as necessary. Our team at Pool Blue Inc. can give you all the information you need on proper pool chemical balance and what products to use to maintain it.
  • Shocking. A third step to maintaining outdoor pools is related to the first two, and that’s oxidation treatments, more commonly known as pool shocking. This step consists of treating your water with a large dose of choline to eliminate algae, body oils, perfumes, and other waste that can’t be filtered out. This step can be trickier to get right, but you can always turn to our team at Pool Blue Inc. to help you troubleshoot the issue.
